In August 2016, South Side Spaces began the process of demolition and clean up. With financial support from the Landmarks Association of St. Louis Revolving Loan Fund, the debris and roof remnants removed, new trusses and roof decking were installed, and the future potential of this midcentury structure began to unfold. Situated on over half an acre, the 4,000 square foot building is comprised of eight office sized spaces and one large open room.
Tea Time
Upon completion of the restoration, the Baker’s Union building got new life as the headquarters of local operation Big Heart Tea Co.
This company had much smaller roots years ago when it began as ReTrailer Tea in a tiny pull behind trailer and then in South Side Spaces’ smallest storefront on Cherokee. Today, Big Heart Tea Co. is a midwest-based, woman-owned tea company on a covert mission to make people feel good through healing herbs and tea. They utilize the large open room in the building for their manufacturing and the rest of the space as offices.
