Chop Suey

2807 Chippewa

So-called for its long-time occupant, Chippewa Chop Suey, this terracotta-ornamented, 2-story brick building was constructed in the 1920s. After suffering a kitchen fire in 2008, the building sat vacant for over a decade before construction began.

Construction plans call for first-level retail or bar space, with a 2+ bedroom apartment above. Abundant outdoor space is provided in the form of architectural ruins at neighboring Homestead.

Chop Suey will join a multitude of other construction projects, including 2755 Chippewa, that are revitalizing this ever-improving district. But first, our crew works to abate decades-old fire damage and to undo the unfortunate decorating strategy of “when in doubt, paint it pink”.
