Welcome to our newest renovation, 2831-33 Chippewa! This building was the long-time home of Cox Furniture, owned and operated by local folk singers, Slim & Zella Mae (they’re worth a quick read, if you have a few minutes to spare). The upper floors were vacant for decades before undergoing a complete gut renovation completed in May 2025.

There are four apartments per floor on each the second and third floors of the building, for a total of eight residential units. While all units are 1 bed / 1 bath and comparably sized, the historic nature of this building means that no two apartments are exactly alike, and rental prices vary based on layout, floor, and architectural details. All of the apartments feature refinished original hardwood flooring throughout the living areas, an in-unit washer/dryer, and kitchens outfitted with all-electric stainless steel appliances and quartz countertops. Second-floor units are peppered with historic touches like paneled doors, millwork, a pocket door for lucky unit 2833 2S, and a handful of original mantels (no longer functional as fireplaces, sorry!). By contrast, third-floor units are more on the modern side, with open kitchen/living spaces with kitchen islands, and simpler doors and trim. If you have a preference for a specific floor, or if you (or your cat) have a preference for a specific side of the building (east or west, north or south), be sure to include that when you join the waitlist so that we can guide you to the unit that best fits your needs.

Pricing starts at $655/month for rent plus $86/month for water/sewer/trash. These are cat-friendly apartments! Pet rent is $25/month. Security deposit is equal to one month’s rent subject to credit and application approval. The advertised rental rate reflects a $50/month discount for paying rent via ACH / wire transfer on the first of the month. On-street parking is available on neighboring streets of Chippewa & Oregon, along with a free city-owned lot half a block away at Chippewa & California.
